Garden visits for EMGS members and friends are one of the most enjoyed activities of the society. We organise privately guided garden tours in locations that may not always be open to the general public. Nowhere that we choose is too far to travel to, and we arrange two bus visits a year. Usually, we spend one day visiting two unusual gardens with a particular horticultural interest and another, where we focus on an interesting house and garden visit. Tasty, sensibly priced lunches and a friendly sociable atmosphere are also an integral part of the day and so far we’ve also been incredibly fortunate with the weather!
In recent years, our visits have included the Brogdale National Fruit Collection, Gilbert White’s House and Garden at Selborne, Buscot Manor, Belmont House, Aston Pottery Garden, Vann Garden, Upton Grey, Grace and Flavour Community Garden and Parham House. We’ve been treated to excellent guided garden visits on a wide variety of topics from Gertrude Jekyll to setting up and running a community garden.
The visits are organised and escorted by members Glyn and Julia Jones and are advertised from the start of the year. Both EMGS members and non-members are welcome to join our garden visits. To meet the requirements of the society’s insurance company, non-members are charged an additional £5 to join a trip which includes a full year’s membership. For details of members benefits and application form click here Membership.
